The Advanced Practice Paramedic is a physician extender capable of extensive advanced patient care interventions for critical, emergent, and urgent patients. This individual possesses the complex knowledge and advanced interventional skills necessary to provide physician extension at the patient’s side, allowing their physician medical program director the ability to have physician level care extended to the scene of any emergency, through the hands, eyes, and ears of the AP-NRP or APP.
The Paramedic Practitioner is synonymous with the proposed EMS APP (Advanced Paramedic Practitioner, or Advanced Practice Paramedic) - a graduate-prepared paramedic having completed a Graduate Paramedic Program (GPP) who has advanced practice authorization.
The EMS-PA and EMS-NP are considered Paramedic Practitioners.
Individuals who are employed by or affiliated members of an emergency medical services agency and who provide emergency medical services [EMS] pursuant to an [EMS] agency
The provision of care by EMS personnel who are certified as First Responder, Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or equivalent
The provision of care by EMS personnel who are certified as an EMT - Enhanced, Advanced EMT, Intermediate, or Paramedic or equivalent as approved by the Board of Health
Any person who holds a valid certificate as an emergency medical services provider issued by the commissioner [i.e. EMR, EMT, EMT-Enhanced, Advanced EMT, Intermediate, Paramedic]
A physician who holds current endorsement from the Office of EMS and may serve as an EMS agency operational medical director or training program physician course director.
A physician, NP, PA, or other person licensed, registered or otherwise permitted to prescribe and/or administer a controlled substance in the course of professional practice
A Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a nurse who has advanced clinical training and graduate level education. NPs perform exams, diagnose/treat diseases, and prescribe medication.
Physician Assistants (PAs) are prepared academically and clinically to provide healthcare services in collaboration with a supervising doctor of allopathic or osteopathic medicine.
Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) include the Physician Assistant (PA-C), Nurse Practitioner (NP), Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) & Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).
