J. Benji Marfori, M.D. FACEP, FAEMS, PPS
Operational Medical Director (OMD)
Areas of Expertise
Dr. Marfori has been caring for patients, leading multiple EMS Agencies, and teaching medical professionals for more than 20 years from the Emergency Room to the battlefield and everywhere in between. Dr. Marfori leverages his diverse repertoire of knowledge and experience to challenge the existing medical paradigms by bringing a level of care once limited to the ER into austere environments where time matters, and infrastructure falls short. Dr. Marfori has had the honor to respond with many local, regional, and federal partners to reduce suffering and improve the quality of life for those most in need during countless natural disasters, such as hurricanes and the COVID pandemic, as well as manmade humanitarian disasters such as the migrant crisis on the southern US border.
In 2020, Dr. Marfori joined Emergility to form the nation’s first Protective Medicine Practice with a properly designed, licensed, insured, and supervised EMS Agency capable of providing medicine and security in any environment. The opportunity to view health care through a security lens was a revelation and allows Emergility to strip out the unnecessary layers and expectations that have grown between a patient and their doctor. Offering a modern twist on the halcyon days of old-fashioned house calls, Dr. Marfori believes that nothing should obstruct the patient-doctor relationship and that we all value our time above all else.
As the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Marfori strives to expand the medical capabilities and reach of Emergility. Dr. Marfori personally vets and trains each EMT, Paramedic, Nurse, Physician Assistant, and Doctor joining this practice only accepting and deploying those who he would allow to care for his own family.
Dr. Marfori continues to practice and train in the art of Emergency Medicine at a traditional hospital Emergency Department. Although no longer responding with the Disaster Medical Assistance Team or by LifeFlight Helicopter Rescue, Dr. Marfori still responds every week by local ambulance providing active Operational Medical Direction and training to multiple local EMS, Police, Fire, and Dispatch Agencies. After providing Operational Medical Direction for more than 5 years for the EMS Agency in Kabul serving the US Embassy in Afghanistan, Dr. Marfori still maintains the EMS Agency serving the US Embassy in Bangui. As an adjunct clinical instructor and Operational Medical Director, Dr Marfori partners with the George Washington University Governor’s Health Sciences Academy to guide and nurture the next generation his future partners and colleagues.
